Physical Abuse

 

 

This article is about a 41 year old man named Isidro Garcia who kidnapped a 15 year old girl for a decade. He has made her to marry him and forced her to carry his child, 'now 3' says the police. However, their neighbours had no concerns in these 10 years and stated that they seemed like a 'loving couple'. I chose this particular article as it supported my area of abuse which is 'Domestic Violence against Women'. However, what made this article interesting was that the 'couple' never showed any sign of distress and perfectly played the role of a normal family; by 'throwing parties' like any other families would. I find these type of articles very rare in my opinion as the abuse was hidden so well.

 

Sexual/ Emotional Abuse





 

 

This article is about a 17 year old boy named Antonio Marcus Acevedo who attempted first-degree murder by nearly killing his girlfriend who they have been dating for 3 years as she refused to perform ‘a sexual act in the car while parked in the high school parking lot’ . We often hear stories like this, especially about teens because they are in an unstable phase where they don’t know what is healthy or unhealthy for them, especially when it’s first love. I chose this article because I think it would link to my chosen area of abuse; Domestic Violence against Women. Not being one sided, however, in my opinion I feel that girls/women often get hurt in relationships as they tend to be the less dominant opponent. It does happen vice versa, but stereotypically looking it’s mostly women. 



 

Emotional, Physical and Financial Abuse

 

Deanna Walters is a Domestic abuse survivor. She was tyrannized with a heavy flashlight in the cabin of a truck by her ex-husband. Whatever she earns her husband would take it away, and use it for drugs; that she didn’t even know about till she was in the truck. She didn’t know whether their bills were being paid, but ‘He was in charge of everything’. These type of cases not only links to Financial abuse, but as well as Emotional and Physical abuse. This massively contributes to my chosen area of abuse; Domestic Violence, as she was not only financially abused, but physically as well. This article proves how women can get abused in numerous ways and not just physically and sexually.
