Legal and Ethical issues when filming a Short Film

COPYRIGHT

When you decide to take a short film or a feature film, it’s always important to make sure that everything you do is original. This will shield your work from copying.

PERMISSIONS TO FILM

If your scene contains filming members of the public, you should be sure to ask their permission first. The same applies for locations. It doesn’t matter whether your scene takes place outside a corner shop or a mall, you need to get the approval from the shop keeper.

LIBEL/SLANDER/DEFAMATION OF CHARACTER

If you decide to say bad things or joke about a non- fictional character e.g. celebrities, you should confirm that you won’t be misrepresenting anything about the real people in the world

REPRESENTATIONS OF ISSUES/SOCIAL GROUPS

In media it is important to look on both sides and not just on one. It is essential that your audience should get the message in the right way of being said, or else people will start making judgments on things that isn’t necessarily true.
